GAPP Certified

The Georgia Pediatric Program (GAPP) of the Georgia Department of Community Health (DCH) serves eligible children under 21 years of age who are medically fragile and in need of medically necessary skilled nursing care and/or medically necessary personal care support.

Skilled Services

  

 

1. Skilled Nursing Services


  • Ventilator management: Monitoring and maintenance of ventilators.
  • Tracheostomy care: Cleaning, changing, and caring for tracheostomy tubes.
  • Gastrostomy (G-tube) care: Tube feeding, cleaning, and maintenance.
  • Intravenous (IV) therapy: Administration of medications or fluids via IV.
  • Medication administration and management: Scheduled dosing and monitoring of medications.
  • Vital signs monitoring: Regular checking of blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature.
  • Oxygen therapy: Administering and monitoring oxygen levels.
  • Wound care: Cleaning and dressing wounds, preventing infection.
  • Seizure management: Monitoring and responding to seizure activity.


2. Respiratory Support


  • Airway suctioning: Removing secretions to keep airways clear.
  • Nebulizer treatments: Administering inhaled medications.
  • Apnea monitoring: Monitoring breathing patterns and alerting caregivers.
  • BiPAP/CPAP support: For children who need positive airway pressure.


3. Therapeutic Support


  • Physical therapy: Assisting with exercises to improve movement.
  • Occupational therapy: Supporting development of daily living skills.
  • Speech therapy: Helping with swallowing, feeding, and communication


4. Nutritional and Feeding Support


  • Enteral feeding: Feeding through a G-tube, J-tube, or NG-tube.
  • Dietary management: Working with dietitians to ensure proper nutrition.
  • Assisted feeding: Help with eating, drinking, and swallowing.


5. Developmental Support


  • Sensory stimulation activities: For children with developmental needs.
  • Play therapy: Engaging activities to encourage development.


6. Parent and Family Education


  • Caregiving training: Teaching parents how to perform medical tasks.
  • Emergency response training: Preparing families for emergencies.
  • Medication and equipment instruction: Training on usage and management.


7. Emotional and Psychosocial Support


  • Counseling and mental health support: Providing emotional support for children and families.
  • Social interaction facilitation: Encouraging interaction with others for social development.


8. Personal Care Assistance


  • Bathing and hygiene: Assisting with personal hygiene tasks.
  • Dressing and grooming: Helping children with dressing and appearance.
  • Mobility assistance: Helping children move safely around their home.
  • Toileting support: Assisting with toilet use and hygiene.


9. 24/7 Monitoring and Support


  • Overnight care: Monitoring and care during nighttime.
  • Emergency response: Preparedness for rapid response in emergencies.
  • Respite care: Temporary relief for family caregivers.


These services are tailored to each child’s specific medical and developmental needs, allowing for comprehensive care in a familiar environment.
